My lola (grandmother) turned 85 years old last November 23. It was held in Galas, in the house of her third daughter. Every year grandma’s daughters alternately host her birthday and this year’s grandmother’s birthday was hosted by the third daughter. As much as mother and I wanted to go to her party, we weren’t able to make time. We were inevitably busy that day and besides, it was a morning serenade party (as always) so we really weren’t able to make it.
To make it up with grandmother, we thought of getting her a birthday cake. It will be a beautiful surprise for her. We did it on the night of the 24th when she arrived home from Galas. It was my youngest sisters Cheep and Cheem who were tasked to order the cake at Breads & Rolls bakeshop in Dipolog City. They arrived at around 7 in the evening bringing the surprise.
And here’s the surprise, a beautiful sunshine cake. Mother originally wanted a burgundy cake for grandma but since it was a last minute order, the sisters got whatever that was already on display. They spotted a round sunshine cake with colors so bright and beautiful. It was a very girly cake for an 85 year-old. Thinking our grandmother is as strong and energetic as a girl of her teens, and to also bring humor to her a-day-late birthday, they thought of getting it.
The cake was quite costly for its size but it was worth it because it was very delicious cake. It is covered with yellow icing that is mango flavored and designed with colorful icing candies.The mango flavor added a very heavenly taste to the cake. When grandma cut the cake for each of her apos (grandchildren), she was more surprised seeing the cake equally colorful as its icings and designs. Grandma liked it a lot! We were so glad to see grandma so happy upon seeing her late birthday cake from us, which was the second cake she got on her 85th year.
